Part 1 - Beauty and the Sublime

  1. Asg1 - 6–12 (or is it 8?) photographs that convey your own interpretation of beauty and/or the sublime within the context of landscape.
  2. Exc1 - Preconceptions - write 300 words that explore what the term ‘ landscape’ means to you.
  3. Exc2 - Read Rosalind Krauss’s essay Photography’s Discursive Spaces: Landscape/View - Summarise Krauss’s key points in your learning log (in note form) and add any comments or reflections.
  4. Exc3 - Establishing Conventions - look at C18th and C19th landscape paintings, List their find landscape photographs that conform to and break these conventions.
  5. Exc4 - Perspectives on the Sublime - does the sublime remains a gendered concept? Contribute to the conversation on the VLE
  6. Exc5 - The Contemporary Abyss - read Simon Morley’s Staring into the Contemporary Abyss, choose a body of work that explores the sublime, write at least 300 words using Morley’s text t o support your argument.
  7. Exc6- Zone System - evidence your understanding.
